The point is that Facebook needs to enable and empower people to NOT have people who message them know the moment the message has been read!. Sure, they can block the person sending the offending messages, but a) that’s not always possible (think of a divorced single mother who has to be able to communicate with the father of their children), and b) that’s not the point. If they have been abused and their abuser is messaging them, their abuser knows the moment that they have seen that abusive message. You do the math any way you slice it, that’s a whole lot of women who are using Facebook every day.Īnd if any one of those millions and millions of women on Facebook have someone stalking them through Facebook Messenger or bullying them through Facebook Messenger, they have no way to stop the bully or stalker from seeing that they have received and read the offending message.
